Concord Medical Selected Four Times for National Guidelines, Participates in Six “National Standard” Projects
On December 11, 2025, the National Cancer Center, the National Center for Medical Quality Control of Tumor Diseases, and the Radiotherapy Quality Control Expert Committee officially released the “Clinical Practice Guidelines for Ion Radiation Therapy (2025 Edition)” and the “Quality Assurance Guidelines for Proton Radiation Therapy Systems (2025 Edition)”, establishing the most up-to-date quality framework for ion radiation therapy in China.
Professors Shen Fu and Zuofeng Li from Guangzhou Concord Cancer Center, a member of Concord Medical Group, served as lead drafting experts and collaborated with multiple national-level cancer centers in China to develop these guidelines. This marks the fourth consecutive time that Concord Medical has been selected for a national guideline drafting team, with the group having contributed to six national standard projects in total.
National guidelines in China have traditionally been led by public tertiary hospitals and national cancer centers, and it is relatively rare for private healthcare institutions to join the core drafting teams.
However, Concord Medical Group has established a strong and consistent track record in this field. The group previously participated in the development of three national guidelines, including two occasions where it contributed to two standards simultaneously. With this latest inclusion, Concord Medical has now been involved in a total of six national guidelines, demonstrating its solid and mature technical expertise.
Being selected once again for the ion radiation therapy national guideline drafting team reflects not merely a single recognition, but a continued national endorsement of Concord Medical Group’s long-term commitment to quality system development.
The two guidelines provide comprehensive standards for ion radiation therapy, covering technical principles, target delineation, dose limits, equipment quality control, personnel qualifications, and the clinical application across multiple cancer types, making them the most important reference documents for China’s particle therapy quality system.
Guangzhou Concord Cancer Center, one of the few private healthcare institutions participating in this initiative, collaborated with top-tier institutions such as the Cancer Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, the Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center, and the Shanghai Proton and Heavy Ion Hospital to develop these standards. This demonstrates that the hospital has reached industry-leading levels in equipment capability, medical physics systems, and clinical standardization.
For patients, standards translate into safety and treatment efficacy. As lead drafting experts of the “Clinical Practice Guidelines for Ion Radiation Therapy (2025 Edition)” and the “Quality Assurance Guidelines for Proton Radiation Therapy Systems (2025 Edition)”, Professors Shen Fu and Zuofeng Li integrated years of accumulated clinical and physics expertise into these guidelines, further enhancing the standardization and safety of treatment processes at Guangzhou Concord Cancer Center.
Currently, all four proton therapy rooms at Guangzhou Concord Cancer Center are fully operational, addressing complex treatment needs across multiple cancer types, including pediatric tumors. The hospital continues to provide patients with precision radiotherapy services of the same high quality as national-level centers.
Participation in the development of national guidelines is not only an honor, but also a responsibility.
Concord Medical Will Continue To:
• Strictly implement national quality standards
• Promote clinical research across more disease areas
• Enhance accessibility of advanced radiotherapy services
• Contribute the “replicable and scalable” Guangzhou Concord Cancer Center experience to the industry
Being selected four times for national guideline development, with a total of six contributions, reflects the nation’s recognition of our long-term commitment to high-quality development. Concord Medical Group will continue to safeguard patients with the highest standards and advance the industry with even greater capability.
